Firewall Preferences (myStratus ONLY)

NOTE: This feature is available in the Standard, Professional, and Enterprise versions of myStratus Desktop. Spectra does not include this feature.

myStratus includes an important security feature called a "firewall." This prevents unauthorized individuals from accessing your database. There are several options included in myStratus Desktop for structuring your firewall. See also: FAQ - myStratus Firewall

  1. Open myStratus Desktop and go to Maintenance > Preferences > Firewall Preferences. You can also access this without logging in by opening the Database Utility (from Windows) and choosing Firewall Preferences

  2. You will be prompted to enter your Customer Account Number and Password.  This is the master account number for the studio OR the account number for this individual studio if Enterprise.  "Authorized Users” as described below are NOT allowed access to your firewall preferences, only master account holders.

  3. You will see a list of firewall rules that have been created for this studio, along with the ability to turn the firewall off. Just a reminder, this firewall only controls access to the database from myStratus Desktop, NOT from myStratus Web or the mobile app.

  4. You can make the following changes:

    • Turn On/Turn Off - You can choose to turn the firewall off and IP addresses will no longer require authorization to access your database. NOTE: This disables an important security feature in the software! We strongly recommend not turning off the firewall.

    • Add - Manually add a known IP address.

    • Delete - Manually delete an IP address that has previously been authorized. For example, use this option to prevent a previous employee from accessing your database from home with the desktop app. NOTE: Remember, the firewall only controls access to the database from myStratus Desktop, NOT from myStratus Web or the mobile app.

  5. "Authorized Users" can also be created on your account. These can be used to create a separate account for one of your employees so they can unblock an IP address from their home without using your master account credentials. Contact tech support to create an authorized user.

  6. Close the window when finished.
